Top Ways to Discover the Best Career Path

If you feel like you really don’t know what you’re going to do with your career, then you are not alone. There are millions all over the world who still have no idea the best step to take after doing something. Should they pursue the degree? Should they apply for a promotion or move to another company? Is it okay to move to another place for the most coveted job?

However, it’s not a good idea to get stuck with the indecision for a long time. In case you haven’t noticed, the clock is ticking, and every second definitely counts. Because you cannot really make up your mind, you already let go of several opportunities.

What You Can Do

There are no definite steps to answer the question “What am I going to do with my career?” but there are suggestions you can listen:

1. Know your strengths. Play by your strengths, as you usually never go wrong with them. For example, if you have a knack for writing, you may want to consider a career in journalism or publishing.

Many are apprehensive about pursuing their passion for a lot of reasons. It may not be aligned with the courses they have already taken. Nevertheless, it’s your passion that will spark continued interest and motivation, and it’s something you do best. It’s definitely hard for others not to recognize you on your strengths.

2. Decide on what you really want. Take time to sit down and ponder on what you want to accomplish in your life. Do you want to own a home and a car? Then most definitely you have to work harder. You may have to take more jobs, pursue a degree that offers better chances when you graduate, or apply for promotions within your company.

3. Visualize. Where do you picture yourself a year or two from now? Can you see yourself doing the same thing? Visualization is a very excellent process particularly for people who are somehow confused on what to do with their professional life. Then more you visualize, the more the goals become clearer. Moreover, doing visualization regularly will help change your mind-set from negative to positive.

You can also use subliminal messages in the process. Subliminal messages can help interpret the things you see on your mind, so they can have more power on you. Some of the subliminal messages you can use are the following:

I am confident I can reach these goals.
I see myself doing the things I love.
This is how I picture my future.
I believe I can obtain this kind of future.

4. Act on your goals. Again, there are no guarantees in life, even when it comes to your career. However, unless you are going to take that giant leap of faith, you will never see yourself going anywhere else. It’s a lot better to try and give a goal your best shot than not doing anything and live the rest of your life with what-if questions.
