Cruise Ship Jobs - Insider Secrets That Can Get You Hired In Under A Month

Cruise lines careers are some of the most awesome jobs anyone could ever hope to have - and many cruise lines are hiring. As a former crew member and recruiting authority for many of the biggest cruise lines, I can speak with some experience on what it takes for someone to break into one of the most exciting careers possible - cruise lines careers, even for those without previous work experience at sea.

You see, cruise ships are like small cities - they have jobs ranging from store clerks to janitors, cooks to waiters and waitresses, doctors, accountants, and of course the deck crew and engine crew. But there are many, many more jobs than this; the list is long, but if you can think of the types of jobs you would find in a small town, you'll probably find it on a cruise ship.

There are, however, some tricks to landing a job on a cruise ship. Starting new careers are always challenging, and even more so with the cruise lines. It takes persistence and dedication to land your first employment contract, and knowing who to talk to in the hiring office can be a big help.

There are over 300 cruise lines currently operating around the world, and almost all of them are hiring for one position or another at any given time. The trick is finding the correct person to get your resume in front of - and having a good resume that meets the standards of the cruise lines is an essential point as well.

As well, you'll want to prep for an interview that may be a bit different than what you are used too. They will want to see what kind of knowledge you have of the industry, and for most jobs, they'll want to see if you are customer-service kind of person. Passengers are of course the life blood of any cruise line, so for most cruise lines careers, they will want to see someone who truly enjoys seeing other people have a good time, and making other people happy.

With that said, understand that the cruise lines hire 15,000 new career seekers a year, and that number goes up every year. Several new mega-ships have been launched in the past year, even with the economy being in the dumps. Believe me, there is work on the cruise lines for those who really want it.

There is often a mistaken impression that you have to know somebody who already works on a ship in order to get in. For this reason, many give up on their dreams, when all they are really lacking is a little knowledge. But the idea that starting a cruise line career is impossible still causes many to stumble.

Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Indeed, if you are determined and persistent, and armed with a little insider information, your chances of getting hired are (much) better than average. Beginning cruise lines careers is really just a matter of learning the proper steps, and then taking them.
